What you need to know about posture to help Improve your health Good posture is very important in maintaining a healthy lifestyle, however it is still one of the most neglected methods when it comes to improving ones health and well-being. What is Posture?Correct posture is the position in which we hold our bodies while standing, sitting, or lying down. Good posture is the correct alignment of body parts supported by the right amount of muscle tension against gravity. Without posture and the muscles that control it, we would fall to the ground. Why is good posture important?Good posture helps us do thing in our everyday life such as: stand, walk, sit, lie down. Good posture also helps us keep bones and joints in the correct alignment so that our muscles are used correctly. This will decrease the abnormal wearing of joint surfaces that can cause degenerative arthritis and joint pain. Good posture also reduces stress on the ligaments holding the spinal joints together. It will allow muscles to work more efficiently and the body to use less energy. And most important back pain is the most common medical problem in the US and this often manifests from simply poor posture. |

Shoveling & backcare/body mechanicsShoveling can lead to back injuries, so consider the rules of body mechanics. Warm up your muscles by walking around a few minutes. Stand with your feet about hip width for balance and keep the shovel close to your body. Bend from the knees(NOT THE BACK) and tighten your stomach muscles as you lift the snow. Avoid twisting movements. If you need to move the snow th one side, reposition your feet to face the direction the snow will be going. Listen to your body, and stop if you feel pain.  |
